ABSTRACT
Background. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus RNA and included in the family Retroviridae. AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection that could be defined as a collection of symptoms or diseases caused by decreased immunity caused by HIV infection. HIV / AIDS is a major problem that threatens many countries around the world. In 2013 the number of people living with HIV / AIDS in Indonesia is 21 511. Hospital Undata in Palu, the categories of HIV / AIDS patients are cared for is the productive age 15-50 years, this is what lies behind the author to conduct research related to the characteristics of HIV / AIDS in the productive age Undata inpatient hospital Palu years 2014-2016

Method. The study design was descriptive with retrospective approach of observing the characteristics of HIV / AIDS patients in inpatient hospitals Undata Palu years 2014-2016 by using the medical record as the primary means of data collection. Sampling in this study using consecutive sampling technique.

Results. The statistical results processed by computerized statistics program. The result showed 36 samples that meet the criteria of a total of 42 samples, which showed patients with HIV / AIDS is the age group 25-49 years (80.8%) and the lowest is the age group 15-19 years (2.7%) , Most patients with male sex (75%). Most patients who are married (80.7%). In most aspects of the worker's job as the private sector (38.8%). Of the 36 patients, had experienced an opportunistic infection (80.5%)

ABSTRAK
Latar Belakang. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) yang merupakan virus RNA dan termasuk dalam famili retroviridae. AIDS merupakan tahap akhir dari infeksi HIV yang dapat diartikan sebagai kumpulan gejala atau penyakit yang disebabkan oleh menurunnya kekebalan tubuh akibat infeksi virus HIV. Pada tahun 2013 jumlah penderita HIV/AIDS di Indonesia adalah 21.511. Di RSUD Undata Palu, kategori pasien HIV/AIDS yang dirawat adalah yang berusia produktif 15-50 tahun, hal inilah yang melatarbelakangi penulis untuk melakukan penelitian terkait karakteristik pasien HIV/AIDS yang rawat inap RSUD Undata Palu tahun 2014-2016

Metode. Desain penelitian bersifat deskriptif dengan pendekatan retrospektif yaitu mengamati karakteristik pasien HIV/AIDS di ruang rawat inap RSUD Undata Palu tahun 2014-2016 dengan menggunakan rekam medis sebagai alat pengumpulan data yang utama. Pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik consecutive sampling.
