ABSTRACT


Background: Plant guava or Psidium guajava L. including the family Myrtaceae, many grown in areas in Indonesia. According to some studies guava leaves have a variety of pharmacological effects, such as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant. Phytochemical test showed that guava leaf extract contains flavonoids, tannins and essential oils have antibacterial properties. Shigella sp is the leading cause bacillary dysentery bacteria. Bacillary dysentery is a disease characterized by severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, often with low volume of stool, with mucus and blood.
Objective: To determinant the antibacterial effect of extractguava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) againts bacteria Shigella Dysenteriae on the in Vitro.
Methods: True experimental with post test only control group design. The extraction method used is the method maseration. Testing for antibacterial activity using the agar diffusion method (method of wells) with extract concentrations of 25%, 120%, 15%. Ciprofloxacin as a positive control and as Na-CMC a negative control. Each treatment was replicated seven times.
Results: Guava leaf extract can inhibit the growth of bacteria Shigella dysenteria at a concentration of 25%, 20%, 15%, with the result row is 12.80 mm, 5.91 mm and 3.80 mm. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) at a concentration of 15% (3.80 mm). Test results using a statistical One Way ANOVA significance value p
