Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram-negatif bacteria which are opportunistic pathogens. This bacteria can cause urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, dermatitis, soft tisue infections, bacteremia, and gastrointestinal tract and kinds of systemic infection, especially in wounds and burns, cancer and AIDS patients has decreased the immune system. Leaves kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata) has active compounds that allegedly have an antibacterial effect.
Methods: The study design was an experimental laboratory posttest only control group to test the antibacterial activity using agar diffusion method. Concentration of Kirinyuh leaf extract tested80%, 40%, 20%, 10% and 5% was with ciprofloxacine as a positive control and distilled water as a negative control. Each intervention replicated five times.
Results: The results of this research showed that the kirinyuh leaves extract (Chromolaena odorata L.) can inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa at concentration 80%, 40%, 20%, 10% and 5%. The results obtained the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) value was 5%. The results of statistical tests using one-way ANOVA obtained significance value p</note>
