<note>ABSTRACT
Background: Nosocomial infection is an important issue of healthy because it increased mortality and one of the most common complications for patients who are hospitalized. Approximately 10-20% of nosocomial infections can be caused air quality in the hospital ward, because some ways of germs can be transmitted through the air. Airborne bacteria that found in hospitals is one of the indicators to determine the quality of the hospital environment because some ways of germs transmission occurred by droplet, airborne or direct contact.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identified the airborne bacteria in the Emergency Room at UNDATA Palu hospital.
Research Method: This research was a quantitative research study with observational descriptive approach. Sampling has done by probability sampling with simple random sampling way which obtained 24 samples of culture media in the ER at UNDATA Palu hospital in 2015. Identification of bacteria has done in the Regional Health Laboratory of Central Sulawesi Province.
Result of Research: 24 samples has been taken, 22 samples did growth of bacteria as well as two samples did not experience the growth of bacteria. 12 of 24 samples has been used to biochemical identification and the results were 4 samples of Staphylococcus epidermidis, 3 samples of Micrococcus variance, 2 samples of Streptococcus sp., 1 sample of Staphylococcus capitis, 1 sample of Staphylococcus cohnii, 1 sample of Staphylococcus hominis in 3 weeks.
Conclusion: The most airborne bacteria in emergency room at Undata Palu hospital was Staphylococcus sp.
