ABSTRACT

Background: Typhoid fever is commonly found in developing countries and in the world there are 17 million cases of typhoid fever. In Indonesia, 91% prevalence of typhoid fever cases occurred in the age of 3–19 years. In Central Sulawesi there are 381 cases of typhoid fever in Palu. Patients with typhoid fever are usually found with anemia through blood tests, but most patients do not show symptoms of anemia due to insignificant decrease in Hb.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between typhoid fever with anemia in pediatric patients aged 0–14 years hospitalized at RSU Anutapura Palu in 2013–2014.
Methods: This study is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data in this study came from medical records of pediatric patients aged 0–14 years hospitalized at RSU Anutapura Palu in 2013 -2014 with a total sample of 98 patients. The sampling method was conducted using purposive sampling with consideration of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results of the study were tested using SPSS 22 and analyzed using chi square test with a 5% level of significance, then observed with Phi table to determine the strength of relationship between the two variables.
Results: From the results of calculations using by chi square test obtained P value = 0.014 (p
