<note>ABSTRACT
Background: Diarrheal disease remains one of the most important public health disease problem in Indonesia because it has high incidence and mortality. Traditionally people use guava leaves as a remedy for diarrhea. According to the former researches, fitochemistry tests that have been done to guava leaves extract (Psidium guajava l) contained active substances such as tanin, saponin, flavonid, and alkaloid as an antibacterial agent that capable to stop diarrhea.
Objective: To determine the antibacterial effects of guava leaves extracts (psidium guajava L) towards the growth of Escherichia Coli.
Methods: This research used laboratory experimental method with posttest-only control group design. Extraction method that used was maseration method. Antibacterial activity test conducted with diffuse agar method (well mehtod) with extract concentrations were 12%, 25%, 50%, 100%, and sefotaksim as a positive control and aquadest as a negative conrol. Each intervention group replicated as many as six years.
Results: Guava leaves extract could inhibit the growth of Escherichia Coli at contcentration 100%, 50%, 25%, 12%, with the results in a succession were 21 mm, 17,83 mm, 15,30 mm, 14,67 mm. The results obtained from the value of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was 12% (14,67 mm). The Results of statistical test by using one-way ANOVA obtained significance value of p</note>
