 <note>ABSTRACT&#13;
Background: Traditional medicine on society has been widely used. One of the plants that could be useful as a drug is red ginger (Zingiber officinale var.rubrum). Chemical compond founded are gingerol and shogaol which can inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes which a normal flora of the respiratory tract. Infection can occur when the body defense interrupted or when the organism is able to penetrate the defenses of constitutive.	&#13;
Objective: To identify the antibacterial effect of red ginger oleoresin extract (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) against the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes.	&#13;
Methods: The study used is a purely experimental research using post test only control group design. Tests of antibacterial power by diffusion cup-plate method.   Samples used in this study are 24 samples. Antibacterial testing research done at the Laboratory of Health Palu.&#13;
Results: Test of antibacterial extract of red ginger oleoresin against streptococcus pyogenes bacteria showed that the inhibition zone in this study have been formed at a concentration of 5% by average-value zone of inhibition is 11,25mm. At a concentration of 10%, 20% and 40% respectively - helped show the average value of inhibition zone is 13,75mm, 15,25mm and 17,25mm. This study shows a significant difference of each concentration of 5%, 10%, 20% and 40% in inhibiting the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes.	&#13;
Conclusion: The presence of the antibacterial effect of red ginger oleoresin extract (Zingiber officinale var.rubrum) against the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes.&#13;

ABSTRAK&#13;
Latar Belakang : Pengobatan tradisional secara turun temurun telah banyak digunakan. Salah satu tanaman yang bisa berkhasiat sebagai obat adalah jahe merah (Zingiber  Officinale var.rubrum). kandungan kimia dari jahe merah yaitu gingerol dan shogaol yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri seperti Streptococcus pyogenes yang merupakan flora normal pada saluran pernafasan. Infeksi dapat terjadi ketika pertahanan tuuh terganggu atau ketika organisme mampu menembus pertahanan konstitutif. &#13;
Tujuan Penelitian: Mengetahui efek antibakteri ekstrak oleoresin jahe merah (zingiber officinale var. rubrum) terhadap bakteri streptococcus pyogenes.&#13;
Metode Penelitian: Jenis penelitian yang dipakai adalah penelitian eksperimental murni dengan menggunakan rancangan penelitian post test only control group design. Pengujian daya antibakteri dilakukan dengan menggunakna metode difusi cup-plate. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 24 sampel. Penelitian pengujian antibakteri dilakukan di Laboratorium Kesehatan Kota Palu.&#13;
Hasil:Uji antibakteri ekstrak oleoresin jahe merah jahe merah terhadap bakteri streptococcus pyogenes memperlihatkan bahwa zona hambat pada penelitian ini sudah terbentuk pada konsentrasi 5% dengan nilai rata – rata zona hambat yaitu 11,25mm. Pada konsentrasi 10%,20% dan 40% secara berturut – turut menunjukkan nilai rata-rata zona hambat yaitu 13,75mm,15,25mm, dan 17,25mm. Penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan dari tiap konsentrasi 5% , 10%,20% dan 40% dalam menghambat bakteri Streptococcus Pyogenes.&#13;
Kesimpulan: Adanya efek antibakteri ekstrak oleoresin jahe merah (Zingiber officinale var.rubrum) terhadap bakteri streptococcus pyogenes.&#13;
