 <note>ABSTRACT&#13;
Background: Escherichia coli is a gram negative rod-shape bacteria in single cell or pairs, these bacteria will become pathogenic when it reaches outside the intestinal tissue. Eschercia coli can cause diarhea, classifide by chracteristic properties of each group virulence and cause disease through a different mechanisme. One of the medicinal planet is clove (syzgium aromaticum) that can be used in a variety of medicine therapies&#13;
Objective: This objectiveof theresearch is tofind out the effectiveness of antibacterial extracts of cloves (Syzgiumaromaticum.) on the Escherichia coli bacteria.&#13;
Method: theresearchwas an experimental laboratory Post test only control group design. Test plants used used cloves (Syzgiumaromaticum.) and divided into 6 groups, namely negative control group (Na-CMC 250 mg), positive control group (Amoxicillin 1000 mg), clove extract group (Syzgiumaromaticum.) concentration of 12.5%,,25%, 50%, and 100%. Measurement of inhibition zone is done after each concentration was incubated for approximately 24 hours at a temperature 37oC. The datawere obtained analyzed using statistical Product and Service Solution SPSS for windows by using One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) methode followed by post testhocLeast significant Difference (LSD).&#13;
Result: The results of theresearch showed that the extract of clove (Syzgiumaromaticum.) have inhibitory effect on the Escherichia coli bacteria. With score level inhibition of 22.05 mm in the highest concentration of 100%.&#13;
Conclusion: The extract of clove (Syzgiumaromaticum.) has inhibitory effect on the Escherichia coli bacteria.&#13;

Latar Belakang:Escherichia coli adalahbakteri gram negatifberbentukbatangdalamseltunggalatauberpasangan,bakteriiniakanmenjadipatogenbilamencapaijaringan di luarjaringan intestinal.Escerciacolidapatmenyebabkandiare ,diklasifikasikanolehcirikhassifat-sifatvirulensinyadansetiapkelompokmenimbulkanpenyakitmelaluimekanisme yang berbeda.Salah satu tanaman obat yang digunakan cengkeh (Syzgium aromaticum), cengkeh dapat digunakan pada berbagai terapi kesehatan.&#13;
Tujuan:Penelitianinibertujuanuntukmengetahuiefektivitas antibakteriekstrakcengkeh (Syzgium aromaticum.) terhadapbakteriEscherichia coli.&#13;
MetodePenelitian:PenelitianinibersifateksperimentallaboratoriumPost test only control group design. Tanamanuji yang digunakanadalahcengkeh(Syzgium aromaticum.) dan dibagi 6 kelompok yaitukolompokkontrolnegatif (Na-CMC 250 mg), kelompokkontrolpositif (Amoxicillin 1000 mg), kelompokekstrakkulitcengkeh(Syzgium aromaticum.) konsentrasi 12,5%, kelompokekstrakcengkeh(Syzgium aromaticum.) konsentrasi25%,kelompok ekstrakcengkeh(Syzgium aromaticum.)konsentrasi50%, kelompokekstrakcengkeh(Syzgium aromaticum.) konsentrasi 100%.
